Jetstream Designs Milano Linate for FSX/P3D - Review

Jetstream Designs Milano Linate

Introduction

Jetstream Designs is a French flight simulator scenary building company, most known for having made airports such as Marseille or Palermo available to the FS community.

Last year, they started developing a Milano Linate scenery for FSX/P3D, scenary that was released just a month ago.

According to the developer, the included features are the following:

  • Scenery configurator for seasons, levels of detail, etc.
  • Native P3D ground polygons with reflections, rain, etc.
  • Animated jetways
  • Volumetric grass
  • Detailed airport objects and vehicles
  • Animated airport vehicles
  • 3D runway and taxiway lights with halos
  • Ramp lights with halos
  • 4 seasons (snowy conditions included)
  • Realistic ground layout with HD textures
  • Extended custom autogen
  • Night environment
  • Custom taxiway signs with realistic night textures
  • GSX© compatible
  • Static GA aircraft
Jetstream Designs Milano Linate is currently available at SimMarket for the price of 24.20 €.

Lets take a better look at it.

Milano's Linate Airport

The airport was built in the 1930's when Taliedo airport became too small for all the traffic of the area. It was completely rebuilt in the 1950's, and again in the 1980's.

Even though it's closer to the actual city, Linate is the second major airport in the Milan area, despite being a close runner-up to Malpensa airport.

First steps

Upon buying the scenery (via SimMarket), you'll get a link to download it.

The download size is of 1.26 GB.

The installation is pretty straightforward, as is the case with all SimMarket installers. In case you are not familiar with them; you just need an internet connection and to have your serial at hand.

After installing it, you won't see it as there is no shortcut, but if you head to the Prepar3D v3\SimMarket\Jetstream Designs Milan Linate P3Dv3\data folder, you’ll find the included scenery configurator. This tool is useful for changing seasons and performace-related settings.

Remember that you'll only see the snowy textures if you select January inside the simulator!

The scenery blends in very well with ORBX's FTX Global/Vector/Open LC, but keep in mind the VAS usage is heavy with all of those add-ons enabled.

Features

Although I already listed the included features above, I'll dive a bit deeper into that in this section.

To start off, the night lightning. It's breathtaking! Take a look at the screenshots below and judge for yourself:

Beautiful halo effect
Spot on runway lightning

Realistic lightning on building too!
The halo effect that emanates from the lights is beautiful and the buildings are properly illuminated, and in the end it all looks very realistic.

When morning comes, the airport also looks really good.
The textures are of very high quality, and that all buildings are well modelled and well-placed.

Passing near the terminal
If you take a closer look at the terminal, you'll see that the interior has also been modelled. This can be disabled from the scenery configurator, but I wouldn't recommend doing so as it doesn't really take too much of a toll on performance.

The terminal from the inside. Can you guess what the next review will be? ;)

While taxiing you'll see the nice amount of ground vehicles that drive all around the airport. Upon arriving at the gate you'll be able to connect it to the aircraft by pressing Ctrl + J.
Yes, it's not SODE, but it's still a nice touch.

If your flight is set on January (and you have selected the "winter" option on the config. tool), you'll see the snowy textures.

LIML in January
Beautiful, isn't it?

Final thoughts

Even though I haven't been able to fly too much into Linate due to time constraints, I've seen enough of it to be able to say it's an amazing scenery.

With its nearly 25 € price tag, some people will say it's an expensive airport.

Taking into account the great performance (I had no FPS or VAS problems with it) and the overall airport quality, my opinion is that it's worth it.

Whether you like to do short haul intra-Europe flights or just VFR flights with a general aviation aircraft, you'll enjoy this scenary.
